PSoM 650 hour Professional Massage Therapy Training Program

Phillips School of Massage offers a comprehensive program of study in massage and bodywork that may be seperated into three modules of training including continuing education courses in a variety of bodywork modalities.

Many licensing boards (and employers) require a minimum of 500 hours of education.

CMT1 Massage Practitioner (250 hours)

CMT2 Massage Professional (250 hours)

CMT3 Comprehensive Studies (150 hours) includes Anatomy and Kinesiology (50 hours) and 100 hours of continuing education electives.

Combining CMT1, CMT2 and CMT3 completes 650 hours of accredited Professional Massage training.

Phillips School of Masssage offers a holistic approach to Professional massage training in a relaxed and encouraging environment.


CMT1 - Massage Practitioner

(250 Hours)


Students learn a wide range of bodywork styles in both Eastern and Western modalities. Instruction also includes anatomy, physiology, nutrition, body dynamics, self-care and successful business practices.

Eight-Week Intensive
Offered four times a year. Mon - Fri, 9am - 5 pm

Two-Part Sessions

You can choose to break up your CMT1 training into two parts by taking the 100-hour IMT - Introduction to Massage Course which is the first 100 hours of CMT1 Practitioner Training, and then rejoining any of the PSoM CMT1 Practitioner training programs within one year of completing the Introductory class.

Prerequisites

While there are no prerequisites, Anatomy I is highly recommended for those seeking to practice massage professionally and may be taken before or after completing PSoM CMT1 - Practitioner Training Program.

IMT- Introduction to Massage
(100 Hours)

As the first 100 hours of the CMT1 - Practitioner Training Program, this course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of massage therapy including skills of listening, sensitivity of touch, presence and the ability to respond to individual needs.

Upon successful completion, students will have learned how to give a full-body massage. This is not offered as a professional training but as a gateway for those wanting to explore their interest in massage with the possibility of continuing their studies and completing a professional program.

This course can also be valuable for health and personal care providers such as nurses (100 Contact Hours, C.E.P. # 6284), estheticians, in-home care providers, hospice workers, personal trainers and others desiring to learn valuable tools for assisting others on their journey toward health and wholeness.

Three-Week Intensive
Offered as the first three weeks of the CMT1 - Practitioner Training Course (see schedule above)


Evening/Weekend Class (Two months)

Tues & Thurs 5:30pm - 9:30pm and four select weekends, 10 am - 5 pm (July 14 - September 15)


Two-Part Sessions

Graduates of the 100-hour IMT - Introductory Course who decide to pursue a career in massage therapy may choose to continue with their class into the second part of the CMT1 - Practitioner Training Program or may join another PSoM CMT1 - Practitioner class within one year of graduation.

CMT2 - Professional Training
(250 Hours)
(500 Cumulative Hours with PSoM CMT1)

CMT2 provides the opportunity to deepen your understanding and exploration of bodywork through student assistantship and review, internships and advanced courses.

Mon - Fri, 9 am - 5 pm plus four Monday Evening Clinics 5:30 - 9:30pm

PSoM CMT1 Practitioner Training. Anatomy I strongly recommended. Others by permission of the Director.



CMT3 Professional Training - 150 Hours
(650 Cumulative Hours with PSoM CMT1 and CMT2 Training)

This course includes advanced studies that broaden and deepen the practitioner's knowledge and experience while granting the additional educational hours needed to obtain a business license in most states (please consult your local licensing board for the requirements in your area). There is an opportunity to focus on one area of study or to create a general course of study from one or more areas of concentration.

Graduates of CMT1, CMT2 and CMT3 will receive certificates acknowledging 650 cumulative hours of training with PSoM. If actual course hours earned in either CMT1 or CMT2 were less than 250 hours, credits may be made up with continuing education electives. Training may be completed within six months and must be completed within two years of beginning CMT1 (more time may be arranged by permission of the director).

COURSE CONTENT

Anatomy Intensive (50 credit hours).

ELECTIVES: Choose from two tracks, each 100 or more credit hours, to total 650 cumulative credit hours with PSoM.

Track I: An Advanced Assistantship to CMT1 Training (30 credit hours) and Continuing Education Electives (70 credit hours). Develop communication and teaching skills and deepen your understanding of the techniques learned in CMT1 as you assist students in the current CMT1 training program. One-hundred-twenty participation hours earns 30 credit hours. Your commitment is your tuition, and there is no additional charge. (You may choose from any of our continuing education electives for the remaining 70 credit hours.)

Track II: Continuing Education Electives (100 or more credit hours). CMT3 students may choose classes from any of the credit courses offered by PSoM to fulfill the continuing education elective requirement.

PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION:

9 Massages - Four given to Professional Massage Therapists with at least 3 years experience and one to the School Director. Four Received from Professional Massage Therapists with at least 3 years experience (no credit hours assigned; critiques to be turned in).



Continuing Education and Community Workshops


Expand your practice and explore different bodywork modalities through evening, weekend and extended training while earning Continuing Education credits as required by many States and licensing agencies.

PSoM is pproved as a Continuing Education Provider by the California Board of Registered Nurses Since 1985 (CEP # 6284) and listed as a Continuing Education Provider by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.
